Legal Section

The Legal Department is responsible for enforcing Council By-laws in order to eliminate illegal developments, nuisance, litter and other related illegal activities, prosecution of court cases and providing legal advice to the Council.

The team is responsible for the following services to the Council:

  • Handling criminal and civil litigation for the Council;
  • Recoveries of Garbage & Town Rates in Arrears and Defaulters;
  • Prosecution of Illegal Development, Litter & Nuisance matters;
  • Representing Council in Mediation and ERT courts on HR and Employment Relations issues;
  • Drafting legal documents and Contracts for the Council;
  • Provide legal advice and legal opinions to the Council and other Departments on legal matters; and
  • Oversee Legislation updates for the Council.
